Puerto Rican Pharma: How to Attract Top Talent
Puerto Rico’s close-knit pharmaceutical sector is aiming to attract new talent to the industry so as to further increase its global competitiveness. There is a strong, robust ecosystem around…
Merck and Schering-Plough merged in November 2009 to create a new company. Today, we are the largest healthcare company in the Puerto Rico. We also are a leader in consumer products and animal care.
For more than 60 years, both Merck and Schering-Plough have a long and rich history of working to improve the health and well-being of people in Puerto Rico. During our combined companies’ history, our researchers have helped to find new ways to treat and prevent illness – from the discovery of vitamin B1, to the first measles vaccine, to cold remedies and antacids, to the first statins to treat high cholesterol. We are proud to have conducted an important portion of our clinical research in collaboration with Puerto Rico scientists and patients.
We also work in partnership with local academia, government, the medical community and community-based organizations to elevate scientific knowledge about health conditions, especially those most prevalent in Puerto Rico, and to educate the people of Puerto Rico on health topics, ranging from prevention and vaccination, to infectious disease and chronic conditions, to sun care.
At Merck we dedicate substantial resources to the manufacture of many of our products in Puerto Rico in several manufacturing plants. Our facilities have developed best-in-the-world technology for the manufacture of active ingredients, product formulation and packaging.
We attribute our Company’s success in Puerto Rico to our more than 1,000 committed employees who have an extra sense of purpose: helping to improve health and wellbeing. To them we offer rewarding opportunities for development and career growth, diverse experiences and an unwavering commitment to ethics and integrity.
While we are proud of our past, we are enthusiastic about the future of this new company and we are excited to help create a healthier, brighter future for the people of Puerto Rico as we bring the important discoveries of the Merck research pipeline to our Island.
