Baxter is one of the largest pharmaceutical and biotech companies in Austria with 4,000 employees, research and production. With offices in Vienna and Orth, both Austria’s largest sites of Baxter International Inc. outside of the U.S. and is the main research site of the Baxter BioScience business unit worldwide. More than 900 scientists from home and abroad are working on the drug discovery and development in the drugs already on the market. Priorities of the BioScience division is the development and production of biotechnological and biopharmaceutical therapeutics. 90 percent in Austria, developed and manufactured drugs are exported.
The Biomedical Research Centre in Orth was founded in 1982. Thanks to years of research and development activities Austrian Baxter achieved market leadership in the field of therapeutic proteins, but also in the successful prevention of TBE for thirty years, the tick-borne encephalitis. Baxter Austria is not only the research and production, but also the further development of its already on the market of blood, plasma products and vaccines required.
The 4,000 employees of Baxter in Austria and operating in one of three operating companies: The Baxter Innovations GmbH researched and developed – as the largest Baxter BioScience Research in the area around the world – medicines and forms the Austrian parent company. Main research areas of the bleeding disorders, BioSurgery (regenerative medicine) and virology are (vaccines). Baxter AG focuses on the production of plasma and recombinant (biotech) drugs and the production of vaccines of the BioScience business unit. She also operates seven plasma centers and is responsible for the acquisition and recovery of plasma responsible for the Group. Baxter Healthcare GmbH Baxter sells products from both divisions (BioScience and Medical Products) in Austria.
