AstraZeneca is a leading international pharmaceutical company with its own research program focusing on gastroenterology, anesthesia, cardiovascular disease, oncology, CNS, infectious diseases, respiratory diseases, joint and bone diseases.
The history of the company in the Czech Republic dates back to 1988, when the ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) division was established here. In 1991, ICI Czechoslovakia was registered, from which Zeneca (CZ) sro was excluded. In 1993, the Swedish company Astra AB established its branch in the Czech Republic. In 1995, Astra Pharmaceuticals was registered.
By merging the two companies in 1999, today’s AstraZeneca sro became one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the country. AstraZeneca employs more than 110 people in the Czech Republic. It participates in worldwide clinical studies, investing more than CZK 100 million (EUR 4 million) a year in the field of clinical research in the Czech Republic.
