As of July 1st, long-term Merck alumni, Chirfi Guindo, will be returning to the company to lead Human Health Marketing as chief marketing officer for Merck Human Health and will join the Merck Executive Team after almost 5 years at Biogen.

Before the parenthesis at Biogen, where he served as executive vice president and head of global product strategy and commercialization, Guindo spent over 25 years at Merck in roles of increasing responsibility across finance, sales, commercial and marketing in the U.S. and globally. His previous responsibilities at Merck include leading global marketing for Merck’s HIV portfolio and Merck’s Human Health businesses in Canada, the Netherlands and South Africa.

In a 2017 PharmaBoardroom interview, when Mr Guindo was President and Managing Director of Merck Canada, he commented on his leadership style:

“I am a competitive person but I am learning to be a bit more patient in taking the time to explain – though of course I do not want to learn to be too patient when it comes to pushing for our innovations to reach the market! But there has to be a purpose in doing what we do.”

In his new position, Guindo will report directly to chief executive officer and president, Robert M. Davis and be responsible for heading up the development and implementation of the company’s strategy for the Human Health portfolio spanning oncology, vaccines, pharmaceutical and pipeline products.

“He has deep experience and a proven track record in strategy, marketing and commercialization across primary care, specialty care and rare diseases, in both developed and developing markets,” Mr Davis said of Guindo.

Guindo has also been recognized for developing strong talent and forging innovative public-private partnerships and elevating the profile of Merck as a patient-focused company.
